North East Lincolnshire Council drives organisational performance with MidlandHR’s iTrent

North East Lincolnshire Council is transforming the HR and payroll provision for its 4,800 employees with the implementation of iTrent, the web-enabled HR, payroll, talent management and workforce planning solution from MidlandHR. The solution promises to empower employees by improving access to critical information whilst revolutionising HR strategy through advanced performance management and process improvement.

The local authority, which provides over 450 services to its 158,400 residents, is already live with iTrent HR and Payroll and is now looking to implement further modules including Self-Service, Absence Management, Expenses, Recruitment, Performance Management and e-Learning.

“A key driver for reviewing our HR and payroll provision was the continuous development of organisational performance,” explains Arthur Linford, HR and payroll project manager at North East Lincolnshire Council. “Our previous payroll system operated on very old architecture and required intensive resources to manage. This proved a real barrier to the council’s ongoing development and plans. Following an extensive review of the market, we decided that iTrent could provide us with a fully integrated solution to meet all our needs, both now and in the future.”

Commenting on the benefits which iTrent is bringing to the council, Linford says: “iTrent’s technology has acted as a catalyst to change ways of working across the organisation and deliver real business benefits. In fact, it has already begun to streamline our processes and daily working practices and better equip our management with the information they need to identify efficiency savings, free up resources and respond to change.

“We now have a single point of entry for data, reducing the administration time spent on multiple data entry and improving accuracy by centralising information. iTrent’s real time information supports better decision making and its ability to easily integrate with our financial solution means fast, easy access to up-to-date management information across the board. Ultimately, all of these changes enable us to maximise value for money and concentrate on improving our front line services.”

Declan McGrath, MidlandHR’s managing director comments: “Best practice workflow and improved business processes mean the council now has a system which fully adheres to industry standards whilst meeting changing demands and accommodating future fluctuations in the workforce. We are now looking forward to working in partnership with the council on the implementation of additional iTrent modules to further enable strategic workforce management and maximise organisational performance.”

Linford concludes: “iTrent’s ability to combine an easy to use, friendly and intuitive interface with high-end specification made it really stand out from the competition. In fact, employees are already taking time out to comment on how intuitive the interface is. MidandHR really identified with our requirements and the high-level consultancy provided during implementation has, to date, exceeded our expectations.”

The council’s 4,800 employees will benefit from a number of different features, in particular the solution’s Self-Service, Performance Management and e-Learning modules. iTrent Manager and Employee Self-Service will allow employees much easier access to their own data, such as holiday requests and training updates, whilst giving managers access to powerful dashboard analytics to review performance progress and ensure it remains in line with the council’s overall objectives.

The Performance Management module, which is scheduled for implementation in 2013, will help to drive workforce effectiveness by providing clear visibility of individual and departmental performance objectives. Features such as online performance reviews and employee profiling help to identify and manage poor performance whilst also identifying and rewarding high performance. In addition, iTrent e-Learning will enable the council’s staff to benefit from web-based training courses delivered directly to their desktops.
